Ōtepoti Dunedin As the Solstice rolled around I headed south, to the shortest days and longest nights, to bundle up and soak up the beauty. Cold days, warm hearts. The people of Dunedin are so hearty, so much love for the place. Explored some old favourite places, caught up with old friends, met some wonderful new ones, and then wrapped it up with a solstice party in the forest - just beautiful !!!! Ōtautahi Christchurch
In the following days I made my way back up to Christchurch for more time with loved ones, and was lucky enough to get to a second solstice party, at Rakaia Gorge. One of the most amazing settings for a party I have ever seen. My highlight was climbing the hill behind the party as the eastern sky began to glow with the first hint of dawn... I came across about ten people in animal onesies and took the best photo of them watching the sunrise, so great. I carried on up and up, through the twisted silhouettes of the matagouri bushes casting eerie shadows, and emerged onto the hilltop. I stood on a great rock, looking out over the whole valley, watching the snow capped peaks bathed in pink, so high I could no longer see the main stage. MAGIC ! These photos by Mark Watson hint at the glory I witnessed :) A moment which will be forever embedded in my memory.
